When a one-eyed youngster named Jimmy Goodnight amazingly manages to free an ax stuck fast in an anvil at the county fair, folks take note that this boy will grow up to be someone important, a leader. Now an adult, Jimmy runs Home Ranch where, rumor has it, he talks to the animals and they listen. But trouble has come to the canyon. When Jimmy and his boys chase off a band of outlaws menacing a beautiful woman named Revelie Sanborn, a series of violent events erupts that tests Jimmy's rule.
