Abstract
Dozens of "Overlander's" left their wives and families behind as they set out toward a brighter future. As well as facing extreme natural dangers, the travellers were torn by religious arguments and personal rivalries, and it took the talents of the leaders to keep the fractious parties working cooperatively.
