A memoir of growing up in Iran during the Islamic revolution.

In this tale there is an old man who keeps the sky, the stars, the moon, and the light of the world in a set of boxes. Raven tricks him into opening the boxes. Raven then steals the sun, and the world around him becomes instantly transformed by the light. Plants and animals awaken, and as Raven escapes through the hut's smoke hole, his feathers become blackened - and they remain so to this day.

As the villagers work hard at their chores, Raven works equally hard avoiding them. After escaping to the forest, he finds himself in the middle of a dispute over a giant salmon. With the help of The Great Spirit, Frog, and the animals, Raven learns that everyone has a place in the Village.
